DIY Winter Spa Treatments
Who doesn't love some pampering. I have enjoyed making bath salts and home spa treatments since I was a teenager. So this year for our simple and heartfelt Christmas gifts, the girls and I made a lip care kit and sleepytime bath salts. We had most of the ingredients already in our home. If you do not have these items trust me they are all easily accessible. You can pick up most of the items at your grocery store, healthfood store, and drug store.
Chapstick base (makes 50 tubes)
4 TBLS unrefined organic coconut oil
3 tsp cocoa butter
2 tsp vitamin e oil
1/4 cup of raw honey
30 or more drops of your favorite essential oil*** (I used lavender/peppermint and clove/grapefruit combos)
Place all ingredients in a widemouth mason jar and place in a water bath on the stove. Melt all ingredients. while you are waiting for the mixture to melt arrange your tubes in a small disposable aluminum loaf pan. I know high tech right? Brooks idea. You could use an old piece of wood too and make a tube holder by drilling holes to fit the tubes. When everything is melted and tubes in place using a medicine syringe to suck up the liquid and shoot it into the tubes. Let cool and cap the tubes. It is a pretty simple and easy method. You can put a cap on your mason jar and label the flavor. Then you can easily make more or reheat the leftovers later.
Lemon Sugar Lip Scrub (makes about 5 - 1 1/2oz containers)
5 TBLS unrefined organic coconut oil
5TBLS raw sugar
30 drops of lemon oil***
Mix all ingredients in a medium bowl. Scoop into jars. Scrub a small amount on dry cracked lips everyday. Follow with your homemade chapstick.
Now my favorite....If you want a relaxing and also detoxing bath then look no further. Move over Calgon:) I vividly remember the Calgon bath salts I made in kindergarten for a Mother's Day gift. Product of an 80's child I guess.
Sleepytime Bath Salts (makes 5 - 1/4 cup portions)
1 1/4 cups of Epson Salts
30 drops of lavender oil***
30 drops of cedarwood oil***
10 drops of peace and calming oil***
Mix all ingredients in a large bowl and then scoop into your containers. I used small mason jars. Use a tablespoon (or more for adults) in your bath water. This is a perfect bedtime bath option for your kids. Calms them and may help them sleep better. Or try it when they are feeling sick. It might help them to relax before bed.
